Parental Leave

Minimum tenure:
No minimum tenure, parental leave is available to all employees from the day you start working with us.
Inclusive of:
Our policies are designed to support all parents. This includes same-sex couples, adoptive and foster parents, kinship and surrogacy arrangements.
Notice:
At least 10 weeks prior to commencing parental leave, you will need to notify your manager.
Primary Carers:
Primary Carers leave is to give birth mothers the time to take off work for their newborn child and recover following birth. It also supports adoptive parents to take time off for a recently adopted child. The primary carer is the person who most meets the child’s needs including feeding, dressing, bathing and supervising.
Primary carers are entitled to take either 12 weeks of full pay parental leave or 24 weeks of half pay parental leave
Secondary Carers:
If you are not the primary caregiver and your partner has a child, or you adopt a child together, you can take Secondary Carer's leave.
Secondary Carers are entitled to take either 3 weeks of full pay parental leave or 6 weeks of half pay parental leave
Stillbirth
In the tragic circumstances of stillbirth, the death of a baby before or during birth from the 20th week of pregnancy onwards, you remain entitled to paid and unpaid parental leave. Employees are not required to resubmit a new leave form, the original will remain in force. The employee may (at their full discretion) return to work when they are ready by notifying their manager.
Extending:
You are entitled to 12 months unpaid parental leave and have the option to extend for a further 12 months of unpaid parental leave.
You also have the option to use some or all annual leave entitlements during the 12 months of parental leave. This can also be taken at either full or half pay.
Inclusions:
Superannuation payments will continue to be paid on paid parental leave, although not on the period of unpaid parental leave.
While on parental leave, you will be included in salary reviews and are eligible to apply for internal promotions and other job opportunities.
Returning:
At least 4 weeks before the expiration of your parental leave, you should confirm your intention to return to work or variance. You are guaranteed to return to work immediately after paid or unpaid parental leave to your pre- parental leave position or equivalent.
